DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPANY'S BUSINESS PROFILE | |
The OM Szopienice Branch in Katowice is a plant owned by Cognor S.A. The company focuses its activities on the production of bronze rods and tubes, zinc casting alloys, and zinc alloys for galvanizing. It specializes in the production of tin bronzes used for elastic components and wear-resistant parts, and, with higher lead content, for bushings and bearing shells, as well as components operating in water including seawater — and plumbing fittings. |
|
MAIN PRODUCTS OF THE COMPANY | The main area of production is bronze, which accounts for approximately 80% of the total tonnage. Bronze is an alloy of copper with tin and/or other metals/elements, with a copper content of 80–90%. Bronzes have good strength properties and are easily machinable. High-alloy bronzes can also be heat treated. They offer excellent anti-friction properties and are resistant to high temperatures and corrosion. The second product group consists of zinc alloys, mainly supplied in the form of zinc alloys for galvanizing intended for hot-dip galvanizing of steel coatings. |
IMPROVEMENT OF PRODUCTION PROCESSES | IMPROVEMENT OF PRODUCTION PROCESSES In the past two years, the company has developed a technology for producing a lead-free alloy (CuSn4Zn2PS Rg+), which is currently used for potable water installations. This alloy is the market’s response to the growing environmental awareness and the associated trend of eliminating lead from copper alloys used in water fittings for drinking water. Currently, many manufacturers of drinking water installations are replacing the traditionally used Rg5 bronze (CC499K) with the CuSn4Zn2PS alloy. The CuSn4Zn2PS alloy has excellent hygienic properties and, with a maximum lead content of 0.10%, meets the requirements of European and American legislation, as well as the REACH and RoHS regulations. |
